Rustic Table DIY

I actually saw this on Pinterest, so I can’t take all of the credit for this idea. But I had an old ikea table that to be quite honest, my sisters dog decided to have for dinner. So I wanted to give it a rustic updated look.

I measured the table and figured out how many boards I would need. I used 1″ x 4″ wood boards. For all the boards to cover the tabletop there was a slight overhang on the width so I added an extra inch on the length so the over hang was even around. Then I add Rustic Table Completely Courtney ed pieces around all the sides to make the overhang was even the way around.

Next I sanded all the boards down. They have these nice sponge type sanding bars now that I got at Lowe’s. They were really helpful and easy to grip if you have small girl hands! I highly recommend using them for sanding of small areas.

Then I stained all the boards with Minwax stain – English Chestnut. I used two coats, and let it dry overnight. The boards will still a little bit sticky. I recommend letting them dry for at least 12 hours.

Next once the boards were dry I took liquid nails and glued the boards on where I wanted them and put heavy items on top so they stuck down really well and let that dry for another 12 hours.

For an extra rustic look I added nails to the corners of the side boards and to secure the side pieces better around the edges of the table.

Let me know if you have any questions! I would love to answer them!
